Pitch

Think globally, act locally has long been a rallying cry for the only effective way to produce global change.

Description

Summary

Fund every MIT and Sloan Alumni Club across the world (approximately 95 total) with up to $5000 each to create a project or organize an event in their community to address climate change locally. The project might involve the creation of a product, process or campaign. The main intent is to increase awareness within the community, and to solicit sustaining activities from volunteers both within and outside the MIT community. It will be left to the discretion of each local alumni club to choose the best way to invest the $5000 seed money.

What actions do you propose?

1. Send invitation to each MIT alumni club worldwide.

2. For those clubs interested in participating, a first-cut proposal including a funding request must be sent to MIT within 12 weeks

3. Climate CoLab advisors will review proposals. Intent will be to accept and fund all serious proposals that are aligned with the mission of climate change mitigation / lowering carbon emissions locally.

4. Funds will be distributed within 4 weeks of receipt of proposal.

5. Local alumni clubs will be required present a live 15-minute update via webcast, to be attended by all worldwide alumni clubs, four months later, and again four months after that.

6. Intent will be for local alumni clubs to review and offer feedback.

7. At end of 2016, a final summary will be required.  The worldwide clubs will recognize the most-impactful result.

8. Assuming successful outcomes from this, the process may be repeated for the following year.
