Summary
Any comprehensive solution for climate change ultimately needs unified support from national governments. It's possible that national governments do not act enough on climate change because they do not understand the consequences that follow their collective actions. I would like to see a discussion that focuses on convincing world leaders that a human extinction scenario is a real possibility.
What actions do you propose?
One action I would propose is that the chief climate scientists of the major nations reach a consensus on an estimated time point in the future where the planet will no longer be able to support human life. It might be a good idea to keep this classified as to not frighten the general population. After this, the efficacy of policies such as tax penalties, subsidies, and other incentives can be measured in units of "years extinction is pushed back."
My reasoning behind this idea is that policymakers usually do not have a scientific background, and terms such as CO2 ppm and ocean acidity might be too vague for some. I think making the current state of our planet more tangible might act as a catalyst for further action.
