Pitch

Provide parking spots in real-time to rides-for-hire services (between rides) while reducing emission caused by unnecessary circling around.

Description

Summary

JUSTINSPOT is a location aware app that allows rides-for-hire drivers (between rides) to grab or exchange parking spots in real-time in neighboring spaces (that have the legal right to) while reducing wear, congestion, emissions, and pollution caused by unnecessary circling around. JUSTINSPOT iOS app is now up in private beta test.

The rapid proliferation and expansion of ride-sharing services like UBER, LYFT and others across the world is a reality. Rides-for-hire drivers are faced with an acute issue in highly congested urban areas each day.

CASH FOR SPOT - Incentivises parking owners to generate extra cash by offering their parking space when not in use by them.

CLEANER ENVIRONMENT- Sharing excess parking spots help reduce carbon footprint and unnecessary consumption of resources.

What actions do you propose?

According to the WSJ, Uber has 160,000 drivers in the US (between 2000-20,000 drivers in all major cities). UBER alone has est 500,000-1m drivers/partners worldwide (London est to have more than 15,000 drivers).

Globally, about 15 percent of manmade carbon dioxide comes from cars, trucks, airplanes, ships and other vehicles. Collectively, cars and trucks account for nearly one-fifth of all U.S. emissions, emitting around 24 pounds of carbon dioxide and other global-warming gases for every gallon of gas. About 5 pounds comes from the extraction, production, and delivery of the fuel, while the great bulk of heat-trapping emissions—more than 19 pounds per gallon—comes right out of a car’s tailpipe.

MIT alumni can be instrumental in promoting and urging the use of JUSTINSPOT app in two major sectors:

One, those alumni that hold influential positions at ride-sharing companies.

Two, those alumni influential at mass communication channels with reach to private, commercial and local government parking spots that hold ownership or legal right to use.
