What immediate actions can we take to address energy-water nexus challenges?

Energy and water are both key resources for societies all around the world, and complex interdependencies exist between the two systems.  This has been coined the “energy-water nexus.”  At its simplest, this can be broken down into “water for energy” - water utilization for cooling thermoelectric power plants, hydraulic fracturing, geothermal energy, enhanced oil recovery, biomass, and hydropower - and “energy for water” - energy utilization for water management, treatment, desalination, distribution, and heating.

In the face of climate change, the relationship between energy and water systems will continue to evolve, driven by mitigation measures affecting energy portfolios and technologies, and adaptation measures addressing changing precipitation and temperature patterns.  This contest seeks high-impact proposals providing an immediate, feasible action that can be taken to address any local, national, regional, or international challenge at the nexus of energy and water.

Hydrogen production and use system via desalination of water using solar, wind, biochem for at "point of use" in existing combustion engines
The SunSaluter is a low-cost solar panel rotator which boosts efficiency by 30% and produces four liters of clean drinking water each day!
By capturing water values of energy planning in water-scarce places, economics can guide sustainable and pro-poor water and energy policies
The Tidal Pump, now at proof of concept, aims to shift large volumes of liquid in the ocean at lowest possible cost using new technology.
SUFI provides an integrated hub that sustainably manages the urban energy-water-food nexus in an era of climate change.
Diatom Algae produce about 20 to 25% of all Oxygen in the world. All the oxygen required to treat sewage can be produced by Diatoms.
Systems thinking leads to a plan to keep Hoover Dam as viable source of clean water and energy.
I propose to combine CHP biogas cogeneration systems in wastewater treatment plants to power water desalination systems.
Deep water electrolysis produces hydrogen with the potential to produce mechanical, electrical and gravitational energy as well as water.
To save water by stopping the sun's evaporation, by covering the surface of ponds, with silver ping-pong balls.
La propuesta es una máquina de centrifugado para oxigenar el agua y por medio de esos giros de centrifugado generar energía
I suggest turning waster water into a source of fuel and fertilizer for energy plants
The STEM needed to radically expand the production of CO2 neg. energy, reclaim water and manage nutrients supports the RCP 2.6 metastrategy.
Urban communities are in growing need of energy+water while creating wastewater and sewage. Here: a self-sustaining solution incl. finance.
To power desalination plants using electrical power from A thermal mass oven, electrical station, as explained in "Energy Supply" contest
The reaction between aluminum and water to produce hydrogen can be improved in several ways in order to maximize efficiency.
