Pitch

Middle Eastern energy supplies are typically associated with oil although recently thermoacoustic energy was discovered.

Description

Summary

This project involves a mixed methodology from Ecology and Remote Sensing in which thermoacoustic energy is extracted with Biotic Technology™ from the Global Electrical Circuit (GEC). Geography tells us that human-environmental systems are linked (Berkes and Folke 2000) and as such, the GEC (Rycroft, Israelsson and Price 2000) is the contextual link. Global warming will abate when thermoacoustic energy is drawn from the GEC with Biotic Technology™. The transduced thermoaoustic energy will replace fossil fuels and according to theories in Physics a new planetary thermostatic equilibrium can be geoengineered.

This technological advance is complex and includes transduction, vibronic coupling and electronic circuitry that mimics biotic behavior. Yet, Biotic Technology™ can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation. This occurs in two ways; first, by replacing fossil fuels with the GEC and second, a post-emissions approach may be used to produce electricity using Biotic Technology™. Advanced engineering research by Tip-Top Energy, a licensed hi-tech company based in Israel, has demonstrated at a terrestrial level that the GEC is comprised of greenhouse gases, post-emission particles, that trap thermoacoustic energy. If so, then emission levels may remain the same and Biotic Technology™ may be used to convert this thermoacoustic energy to electricity.

Tip-Top Energy is currently developing a prototype that will be complete within two years and demonstrate to investors the ability to produce electricity from 'thin' air. The connection between the GEC and the thermoacoustic energy that it traps is difficult to demonstrate and the connection between thermoacoustic energy and greenhouse gas emissions is difficult to prove. Dr. Manspeizer would like to win this contest in order to continue and research these connections because their relationship within the Earth's Ecology is important to our understanding of human-environmental relations.

Category of the action

Reducing emissions from electric power sector.

What actions do you propose?

I propose to reduce emissions from the electrical power sector by means of terrestrial intervention and switching production from fossil fuels to Biotic Technology™. Current levels of emissions can be maintained until fossil fuels are phased out in order to prevent a social crisis associated with regulation. This is because the proposed technology, Biotic Technology™, is constructed to consume the thermoacoustic  energy that is trapped by post-emission greenhouse gases particles within the Global Electrical Circuit (GEC). This off-the-grid idea is intended to be implemented at a regional scale, initially in the Middle East, and eventually replace existing grids in other regions. Thus, within a century the existing fossil fuel based grids will be replaced (through intervention) with a clean technology that has the potential to reverse climate change. This proposal hypothesizes that Biotic Technology™ can cool the planet of global warming through transduction (conversion) of the thermoacoustic energy that becomes trapped in the GEC. The GEC is a relatively new concept although conforms well with Ecological theory as notions of succession in Ecology lead to evidence that the GEC occurs in a state of asymmetry (Manspeizer 2007). These notions of asymmetry (Horwich 1992) or Disequilibrium (Behnke and Scoones 1994) suggest that production of a technology that operates dependably within the asymmetric field is critical. Tip-Top Energy is currently developing an Asymmetric Pendulum Oscillation (APO) sensor that operates dependably in such conditions. The APO sensor will ostensibly assist policy makers to mediate climate change through its function as a thermostatic regulator for the planet. Simultaneously, the asymmetry itself drives the APO through momentum in the reaction/diffusion field to quantize the thermoacoustic signal. Thus, a new technology initiative, namely Biotic Technology™, can encourage adoption of new physical actions and have a positive impact on climate change.

According to the National Academy of Sciences (BASC-2015, p.1), Report on Climate Intervention;

"To date, most research on countering the impacts of climate change has focused on mitigating climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions or on adapting human and natural systems to make them more resilient to the effects of a changing climate. In contrast, climate intervention - purposeful intervention in the climate system to counter climate change - has received little attention."

Furthermore, they urge caution in determining a course based on science and suggest a solution based on a "portfolio" of responses. The National Research Council (News Release, 2/10/2015) noted more positively that these strategies could contribute to a, "...broader portfolio of climate change responses with further research and development." The study was sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences, U.S. Intelligence Community, NASA, NOAA and the U.S. Department of Energy which gives an indication of the institutional weight. Finally, besides the countless articles regarding Geoengineering as a new technology are Barack Obama's statement (Washington Post, 4/7/2015) that the connection between climate change and public health must be examined. In fact, the administration is launching a climate change initiative and the inter-agency U.S. Global Change Research Program (GCRP) will be releasing an assessment report that examines how public health is directly affected by climate change. This, in light of the Middle East where oil production may prove secondary to the resource scarcity that will result from climate change. Agricultural cultivation will suffer and agricultural lands stressed and destroyed through desertification and salinization. This will lead to a massive transhumance event and even greater Islamist radicalization (Manspeizer 2011).

According to Rycroft, Israelsson and Price (2000, p.1573), "...by monitoring the global electrical circuit, we may be able to study, in a cheap and consistent way...important parameters that affect the global climate system." One such parameter becomes apparent through use of vibronic coupling to monitor motion within the terrestrial phase of the GEC (GTEC) rather than emitted light in the atmosphere. This approach offers a unique opportunity to reverse climate change through the GTEC according to the inherent tensile stresses found in its structure. This was first discovered by Dr. Manspeizer while working on land-use / land-cover (LUCC) analysis in the 1990's. Later, Dr. Manspeizer would trademark the term Transgression-Tensility® to describe the ecological function by which the GTEC, comprised of linked ecological systems, breaks according to the tensile stresses of the system (Manspeizer 2007). By 2011, he had built the first BioticTechnology™ sensor to record the Transgression-Tensility® signal in a regional system (Manspeizer 2011) and afterwards deduced that the signal was acoustic and thermal. This mechanical logic required a topological revolution in Geography in which displacements in the GTEC and LUCC are identified through the relationship between a comparator and voltage regulator. This mechanical relationship is described as an asymmetric pendulum oscillation (APO) which Dr. Manspeizer theorizes defines the function by which climates and landscapes evolve over time.

Existing models of ecological thermodynamics intimate that thermoacoustic energy links the ecology through a terrestrial phase of the GTEC (Rycroft, Israelsson and Price 2000). A land-based remote sensing system was developed in the Middle East to harness the thermoacoustic energy. A vibronic coupling transducer was built with computer microcontrollers and a GIS for tomography which required adapting the remote sensing system to reduce issues related to linearity in environmental change. Thus, the Transgression-Tensility® in the GTEC is converted through the vibronic coupling transducer and electricity produced. The way that thermoacoustic energy acts as a link in the regional Ecology was quantized and the potential energy in the GTEC measured. The regional remote sensing system (as envisioned) will develop over the next few decades given regional stability in the Middle East. Biotic Technology™ is electronic solely and not chemically based, as other geoengineering products, and its circuitry is intended to mimic biotic behavior. This is crucial to its function because hypothetically biotic behavior transforms thermoacoustic energy through processes of respiration. According to ecological theorists (Jorgensen and Fath 2004; Metz, Mollison and van den Bosch 2005) and perhaps to support some notion of Gaia (Pielke 1998), this occurs as thermodynamic barriers are broken to release Oxygen to the environment. Given that nature is indifferent to the process and bifurcation flows spatially then the asymmetry becomes energy that drives itself much as the climates function.

Questions remain regarding the connection between greenhouse gas emissions, the GTEC and thermoacoustic energy. If it were true that greenhouse gases emissions become assimilated into the GTEC where thermoacoustic energy becomes trapped then we would see high levels of energy within processes of Transgression-Tensility®. Further research demonstrated that there is a production of thermoacoustic energy in processes of Transgression-Tensility®. ADC-TVS circuits were used to provide electrical pressure to the GTEC, breach the potential atomic barrier and illuminate the energy surface so resistivity becomes visible. This APO sensor mimics a naturally occurring ecological process (Manspeizer 2007,2009) and provides greater voltage without additional electrical pressure. Thus, the APO sensor may be attached to the GTEC without a Hall Effect through perpendicularity to the electrical field. Vibronic coupling is used to perform this process, which is critical to our understanding of climate change, because it focuses on nuclear motion in transition between energy states and describes the dielectric oscillation within the displacement. The APO sensor was developed as a tool for vibronic spectroscopy in order to record the vibration in the displacement as an image for medical analysis. Yet, when a study was conducted in the field, vibronic spectroscopy revealed that thermoacoustic energy was trapped in the GTEC as a result of post-emission greenhouse gases (figure 1). Therefore, as fossil fuels are phased out, Biotic Technology™ can convert the GTEC and its post-emission trapped thermoacoustic energy to electricity.

Figure 1. Vibronic coupling graph that shows the increase in thermoacoustic energy levels from pre (a) to post (c) emissions in the GTEC (see Eo)

This challenge to existing models of solid state electronics pushes the zeroth law of thermodynamics to the Ecological. Recent works in ecological thermodynamics (Holling 2001) decries the environmental factor which is the reason d'etre of environmental science. Other research (Qikai and San-Qiang 2002) demonstrates that thermodynamic boundaries, such as the sound barrier, are corporeal and may be broken (rather than tunneled). The main effort of this project becomes to record out of phase ecological electromagnetic phenomena (e.g. GTEC) and utilize them through incorporation of asymmetry into electronics. In-phase and out-of-phase phenomena are described by phase voltage which is dependent upon primary and secondary voltages. Thus, the significant phase voltage (VPHASE) becomes the difference between secondary voltage (VS) and primary induction (IP). Therefore, the transience of the secondary voltage may be quantized against the mechanical impedance of primary induction. As an equation that compares relativity as a slope (m+b) with variability as a function (f) in search of a space (x,y) in which relativity and variability coexist in-phase is expressed logically (z):

[1]     z = (∆x (mx+b) - f (∆y)) / 2

[2]      VPHASE = (VS - IP) / 2

To conclude, the results of this project indicate that impedance of analog signals in the GTEC suppresses transient voltage and causes induction. Radiation pressure occurs along a bifurcating trajectory and is carried by transient voltage from primary induction sources along reversible displacements within the electrical field. According to Fischer (1984: 50), who described this phenomena in vibronic coupling, "...ground state contribution may be achieved by expressing the transition intensity in terms of the transition momentum rather than the transition length." Ecologists may agree that band gap width variability highlights electromagnetic configuration and geometry of the causal structure which implies that transitions in state and transition theory are variable. Research in vibronic coupling discovered quite significantly that there is a state within transitions that may be analyzed through acoustic vibration (Fischer 1984). State and transition models become complex to a level that only the vibration of the phase transition becomes relevant in order to deconstruct the state. For this argument, that the environmental factor is a state within transitions, Israeli Military Intelligence (IMI) won an award from the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection in 2011-2012. Therefore IMI is well placed to apply its capabilities to solving climate change in the Middle East. This project proposes that climate change can be addressed in such a manner in order to immediately apply the initiative suggested by Barack Obama and the GCRP. Further cooperative effort between IMI and the US military can occur under the auspice of their cooperation. In this manner, the Middle Eastern Jahilliyah (or wilderness in Islamic theory) can be monitored as it relates to climate change and radicalization. To these goals, Israel will be used a base from which to monitor regional climate change and regional allies will be enabled the data.

Who will take these actions?

According to the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA Press Release - 5/12/2014), “...growing use of coal globally is overshadowing progress in renewable energy deployment, and the emissions intensity of the electricity system has not changed in 20 years despite some progress in some regions...a radical change of course at the global level is long overdue.” This statement reinforces the notion that the intervention initiative submitted in this proposal is a sanctioned act although to be taken primarily by Tip-Top Energy. The key actors include private sector investors and venture capital firms, plus informed individuals who work at the global level and institutions such as University programs and Environmental groups such as Greenpeace and the Sierra Club. Yet, in the end, Biotic Technology™ has been developed to be the lead role much as a machine can carry more of the physical "burden".

Combating climate change will require, according to estimates by Dr. Manspeizer, an enormous physical and mental burden that will not be accepted by the public. Hence, a machine was constructed that can assimilate the stress and also convert that same stress to energy simultaneously. This stress may have traditionally been carried by cultures and many cultures in the Third World still carry such stress according to geographic theory. But, this transfer of proximate cause away from "population" and towards "technology" will be a positive step for global development efforts and the economy. Tip-Top Energy is prepared for the role and actively seeks investment and endorsement in order to proceed. Eventually, the firm would like to patent the technology and also provide training courses for institutions and employment for environmental scientists. Therefore, Tip-Top Energy's intervention initiative should receive the moral support of federal agencies in the US and the participation of environmental groups which will aid in raising investment from the private sector.

Where will these actions be taken?

Initially, this initiative was intended as part of the War effort against Islamic State although it demonstrated such civilian potential that the decision was made to expand. Confidentiality in such matters is important and this project sits on the boundary between governmental and civilian responsibility. This boundary runs through the Third World though and the projected plan is to establish a ground-based remote sensing system with a hub in Israel and ground-based transmission stations in Central Asia, and East and North Africa. The development of such a remote sensing system requires two stages; one, active sensors to trigger and passive sensors to receive the transduced signal -  two, a tomographic system to interpret the environmental data through GIS. To date, the research has completed the stage one concept of the remote sensing system and this proposal implies that stage two can be conducted with the correct financial and institutional support. Stage two differs from commonly used quantization operations in remote sensing applications which tend to be optical.

Therefore, the theoretical part of this action would be taken in the remote sensing community which would be required to 'think' about viewing a thermoacoustic audio signal through tomographic means rather than the visual signals normally associated with space-based remote sensing. Regarding the geographic location of the project which will be conducted in the Middle East and Africa, nations such as Morocco, Jordan, Eritrea and Uzbekistan which have relations with Israel can house transmission stations. These nations have strategic advantages that will be exploited because sensitive issues such as agricultural intensification and industrialism are involved. Western academic institutions can monitor the process and participate in exchange for association with the project. The goal is complex and the intended result is promising which includes the production of renewable energy in the developing world.

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

Advanced engineering research by Tip-Top Energy suggest that 40% of all greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere are detrimental. To be honest, 50% of al greenhouse gas emissions are a necessary by-product of sustainable living while 10% are natural emissions from the planet. Therefore, a more reasonable projection regarding the reduction of greenhouse gases in the Middle East, including CO2, methane and nitrous oxide, will be 40% by the year 2115. If "business were as usual" in the Middle East then greenhouse gas emissions will double from present levels by the year 2060 (IPCC 2014) and a regional crisis will result. Therefore, a post-emissions strategy is suggested in which Biotic Technology™ is used to remove the renewable thermoacoustic energy from the GEC and eventually replace non-renewable fossil fuels. In this manner, post-emission use of greenhouse gases will limit the risk of conflict and eventually over a century long time frame also reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

What are other key benefits?

Two unexamined benefits that I would like to discuss are the regional security benefit in the Middle East and the benefit to Science. Biotic Technology™ was originally used as a means to monitor land-use / land-cover processes in the Middle East having originated in Remote Sensing and Ecology. Needless to say, the approach is controversial because it pushes the boundaries of thermodynamics zeroth law yet today Tip-Top Energy is leading the field in geoengineering ecological solutions in the Middle East. Having projected greenhouse gas emissions reduction and the impact on climate change, the ability to establish regional strategic stability through breakthrough Science is also exciting. However, the time to intervene on the fossil fuel industry, assert the ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and rally a generation around the idea of green energy production is now. This holistic project is a positive step for society toward environmentalism, sustainability and peace.

What are the proposal’s costs?

The proposal cost must be addressed in two ways; first the cost according to "symbolic capital" and second the cost according to "economic capital". Why is symbolic capital, often associated with Pierre Bourdieu (d. 2002), an important consideration when discussing greenhouse gas emission reduction? Symbolic capital is a negative side-effect of these proposed actions in the sense that smallholders and social systems must pay by rescheduling society. Biotic Technology™ is a technological breakthrough but it works according to Nature's asymmetric schedule and therefore includes adaptation issues that will eventually be fixed by an energy storage device. The projected economic capital cost, which will be raised from private investment through a venture capitalist firm is approximately 250 million dollars. Yet, this cost is intended over a 50 year period in which Biotic Technology™ becomes a household brand name and is eventually sold globally in the form of generators and other thermoacoustic devices.

Initially, in the first 10 years, investment in the realm of 1-5 million dollars will enable the patent of a protocol device and hiring a team of engineers and programmers. Within 50 years, Biotic Technology is estimated to earn upwards of 20 billion dollars (including the participation of nations that are on-the-grid with Biotic Technology™). Therefore, the initial investment is notably acceptable as well as the anticipated 50 year cost. With regard to the symbolic capital cost of switching grids and changing social schedules accordingly; it is a mute point. As societies adapt to new technologies they absorb the symbolic capital much as with environmentalism. Tip-Top Energy estimates that by 2115, the planet will have completely adapted to the new Biotic Technology™ grid. The cost, 250 million dollars over 50 years, is a relatively good value in exchange for a 40% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions over 100 years.

Time line

The time line is the most crucial aspect of this proposal because schedule is also a reaction to climate change forecasts in order to combat crisis in the Middle East. As such, the time line is divided into three main parts, construed as micro, meso and macro scale. They occur in a spectrum from smallholder adjustments to cultural adaptation. This touches upon the notion of hyperreality (500+ years) which will not be addressed in this proposal because it has been incorporated.

  1. Micro scale (5-20 years) - Within five years we should see a breakthrough into the institutionalized economics in Middle Eastern countries and in 10 years regional participation to begin. Within 15 years Biotic Technology™ will be available for purchase by consumers although it is estimated that the institutionalized purchase will have greater impact on greenhouse gas emission reduction.
  2. Meso scale (30-60 years) - By the year 2055, Tip-Top Energy forecasts that the regional Middle Eastern Biotic Technology™ system will be well entrenched. Prior to which other regional systems will be developed globally so that by the year 2055 we will already see a significant improvement in the planet's terrestrial health. Biotic Technology™ without the use of chemical geoengineering, and along with other initiatives, will succeed in reducing the level of greenhouse gases in the earths atmosphere.
  3. Macro scale (70-150 years) - In roughly 100 years, given that this intervention succeeds, we will have used our fossil fuel reserves and begin to rely solely on alternative energies. By the year 2115, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by 40% which will reach a reasonable standard of sustainability that can be accepted. All cultural adaptations to the new grid will have been complete in 100 years and the earth as a human-environmental system will continue along a new development trajectory. This, once again touches on issues of hyperreality that won't be discussed in this proposal.
