This would be a very helpful contribution to the community, surely. It would be a simple, potentially effective way to quickly increase mutual awareness among climate groups in town.
Its success, however, depends a great deal depends on the implementation and the social organizing that surrounds it.
Perhaps there should be more allowance in the budget to support the community organizing for the adoption necessary to make the project succeed -- interfacing with both information sources as well as websites that would share it.
Consider making a more generalizable tool than an HTML snippet; while smaller organizations with fairly DIY websites would probably be likely to include this, bigger ones, which are more conscious about branding on their sites, might not. It might be wiser to approach the goal less in terms of creating a fixed, embeddable tool than creating an API that would allow for many different kinds of outputs. For instance, in addition to an embeddable snippet, the API could allow:
* People to automatically post news and announcements through their social media accounts (a la Thunderclap)
* A live-updated online calendar file that people can subscribe to and include in their own calendars
* A master RSS feed that people and organizations could subscribe to
* Periodic email newsletters for people who want the lastest in their inboxesAll of these things could be automated similarly to how you describe -- but it would mean creating a more generalizable tool.
Perhaps such a tool already exists (example: http://www.tothepc.com/archives/10-tools-to-combine-mix-blend-multiple-rss-feeds/); if you created one, this could actually become a general-purpose tool that anyone could use for their own purposes, not just the climate movement in Boulder.
This project can bring people together on many levels and would be ever-growing. Having people begin to share a calendar widget is the first step of many, on the way to deeper collaboration.
