Proposal: Saving The Earth, One School At A Time Contest: Fostering Climate Collaboration in Boulder, CO 2016 Thank you for your contest entry. Thank you for your contest entry. We appreciate your willingness to share your ideas and also the time and effort you put into developing a proposal and submitting it to the contest. We have reviewed your proposal and found that it contained intriguing elements; however, have chosen not to advance it to the next round of competition. We encourage you to keep developing your idea. Transfer your proposal to a Workspace to re-open it, make edits, add collaborators, and even submit it into a future contest. You can do so by logging into your account, opening your proposal, selecting the Admin tab, and clicking “Move proposal.” We welcome you to stay involved in the Climate CoLab community: support and comment on proposals that have been named Finalists, and vote during the public voting period to help select the contest’s Popular Choice Winner. This seems like a fantastic program! Unfortunately it's unclear how this project will really foster collaboration and connectivity in the Boulder community. It might better fit under a different contest page. Great work, thanks!

Great program! The next generation is one key population to bring environmental awareness to and they can, in turn, affect the behaviors of the rest of their families. I am glad that the program is working closely with CRC who is running a similar program statewide. There are a lot that you can learn/benefit from each other.
A few thoughts to share:
1) Is the plan for this program to stay in the district? At what point will the district be “done” with this program and no longer see the impact that you see in the first few years? What’s your plan for the next few years?
2) Have you done long term, follow-up studies of the impact of the program? Since the energy monitors have been installed in the participating schools, it would be very interesting to see if the short term (February competition) behavior changes will carry into a longer term - say 1-5 years after the competition is finished?
Judges' Comments
This is an exciting project, with a track record of success and clear metrics for measuring progress. The proposal certainly conveys that effectiveness. However, more detail would be helpful. In particular, it's unclear what kind of escalation would come from the success of this proposal. How would the project incorporate a wider range of participants? How would it lead to greater interconnection across the community? Would it reach beyond the school communities in any ways? How could the success of this effort in schools reach to other sectors of the Boulder community?

I also took some reflection time for energy reduction behavior use I have observed in my own school, and stories I heard from children and parents coming from their homes. |
