Who and why to connect with & buy from? Video's on local people's visions of the future and their sustainable products & services clarify.

Description

Summary

A video web-application that opens when one searches for a product or service in a local area, f.ex. Boulder. In these modern yellow pages there is (1) a part on visions of the future, and (2) a part on solutions for the raised problems (sustainable products and services). Interviewed persons on both parts explain what drives and motivates them and how they are experiencing the process, difficulties and joy.

Everyone knows the value of a picture for impressions: video gives so much more than the picture. In order to dismantle the societal disconnect seeing someone, even online is the first step. When the first barrier of not knowing the person is taken, contact details are provided very near.

These contactdetails may be on a linked sustainable yellow pages online, where all the video's are find able as well.

When interest after watching is expressed by x people, an automatic invitation for a meetup between the interested group and this person, will be arranged automatically, with f.ex. doodle.

These video's are not as marketing video's but rather as raw journalism: with a curious investigative tone. The attention is more on the person and his drive than on the product itself. Of course the video's will help market. This compensates the disadvantage of price that sustainable products face due to current incorrect price mechanisms.

In the future vision part people are asked respectfully questions that give clarity on why some people are so little motivated to act for the future (read climate) and others are so much. The promises of solutions found in the local area, in the form of products and services that are future-proof.

There is room for feeling and image, facts to a lesser extent as they reach people less deep. Have sustainability on the faces of many, not only of activists and idealists.

If this app manages to be used for cities globally, they are very useful resources for schools.

Video's are short and made low cost and easy, f.ex. on smart phones by students.

What actions do you propose?

Organically grow first a team to develop the concept further and try-out a couple of interviews. (I would try-out from the Netherlands - done some. Someone else in Boulder.) I believe in organic process.

I see a huge potential internationally if well thought out. To be used as a tool for schools globally. Just imagine to see the visionaries in a Bangladesh waterside town in your geography lesson and then compare them to your local visionaries that think it is not so urgent. But start small. Small steps. Let it be a nice project.

Who will take these actions?

Just saw that Joseph Oldenburg could be very interesting person for cooperation, as IT-pro. His plan sounds interesting and has overlaps as well.

I would like to organize the content side of the video's together with journalism students and want to train them.

What are the key challenges?

Organically grow first a team to develop the concept further and try-out. I would try-out from the Netherlands. Someone else in Boulder. I believe in organic process. Just imagine to see the visionaries in a Bangladesh waterside town in your geography lesson and then compare them to your local visionaries that think it is not so urgent. But start small. A challenge is also to get the right tone, no marketing bla bla, nor the always repeated talk on sustainablility. A fresh sound! And intelligent, friendly, respectful, not judgemental etc.

Good editing!

IT-wise it also has great challenges, but I havent explored these much yet. Google can be difficult. There are more options than the described route.

Thinking wisely about how to not get the virals in the face as ads, but appear subtle and attractive. Whether to and if so, how to, intelligently construct an order of appearance.

What are the key benefits?

That people working and studying in a sustainability related area knows each other at least from screen and therefor easier takes up contact with each other, as there is something they can refer to, it is a less cold call when one doesn't know more than name and product, for example.

The benefit of the project is in part so that people in the sustainable sector know how to find each other.

The other part is that it is aimed at making people more aware of the need to take action and live more sustainably.

What are the proposal’s costs?

Time line

First need to talk to IT specialist. Get Google cooperating with the project.

If this construction works, it ideally runs at least in early 2017 in Boulder and Amersfoort, and when most is learnt, then in 2018-2020 (with EU-subsidies) rolls out in some cities in other European countries (I have relevant connections in many); as well as on other continents. We need the areas affected by climate change in this to get started as early as possible.

Get schools worldwide using the video database 2020, but that is a new plan (-:, lets start small, even when the potential is so huge.
