Thank you for your proposal! This is a very interesting idea. I'm curious to see the rest of the proposal and how you propose to carry out these actions. Best of luck developing the proposal! - Hannah

Dear ranarahaman, You have identified a great need relevant to coastal Bangladesh: improve food security, minimize losses. You are proposing what could be an important tool to improve food security and minimize losses by building capacity of vulnerable farmers and helping them to make informed decisions based on information adapted to local conditions. Do you have access to the needed data that would be distributed via ICT? Thanks for your work on this and I look forward to its continued refinement and specificity. Best, Pete

Dear Pete Thanks for your comment.I have planned to deliver message to vulnerable farmers relevant to climate-smart agriculture, agro-meteorological information, perfect sowing period etc. by which farmers will be able to minimize loss due to climatic disasters. I have access to needed information in national grid and I have also planned to produce location specific information through by own effort. Regards

Dear Ranarahaman - an interesting proposal. Some thoughts for your consideration: Do you really mean 'climate smart agriculture' - this term is defined (eg by FAO) as three pilars - enhanced production, resilience to cc impacts and, where possible, carbon sequestration. From the text it looks to me like you are mostly looking to enhance resilience to CC, in which case you may wish to refer to it as such without the term "climate smart agriculture" per se. Another comment, already reflected above by Pete is that it is not entirely clear what information or advice could best be distributed to vulnerable farmers. Though you say you have access to needed information, I am a bit hesitant to believe we really understand what the needed information is, or that it may change in time, so a system that adapts to relevant information is of course advisable. Finally, I wonder if ICT is really an ideal information distribution system in rural bangladesh? Less information throughput, delivered slower, but perhaps more convincingly, through human contact and demonstration (ie farmers watching their neighbors succeed with some intervention) may be more effective than sms? Good luck.

Dear Thanks for your inspiring comment. For your kind information, the proposal will address three pillars of climate-smart agriculture defined by FAO. Firstly it will address enhancement of production through promoting climate resilient high yielding varieties innovated by IRRI,BRRI etc. Secondly it will adress resilience to CC through disseminating and capacity building of knowledge among farmers on season specific crop varieties and also changing crop calendar if needed. Thirdly it will also address carbon sequestration from sowing to harvesting of crops through utilizing organic fertilizer, reusing of crop residue etc. We will disseminate information on season specific crop sowing, micro-climatic information, hydro-meteorological information, soil nutrients status, information on high yielding saline and flood tolerant varieties etc. We will also train farmers on crop calendar changing, bio-fertilizer production, specific dosage of fertilizer, soil health etc. It is obviously right farmers learn from neighbors but as a pilot basis intervention we will make trial on this initiative to divert farmers to climate-smart agriculture through cell phone sms.

This is indeed a great idea. I really appreciate your way of thinking. I strongly believe that, if you could implement this proposal, definitely the coastal community of Bangladesh will be benefited to a large extent by improving resilience capacity against CC for agriculture and crop production. Best regards, Mahbub

I would like to build on the comments and suggestions of Pete and Keith regarding the information that you intend to 'push' to the farmers in Bangladesh. It would help your proposal if you could refine and sharpen the focus of the climate information you intend to provide. I would suggest reviewing the lessons learned from earlier similar/related initiatives in Bangladesh from ADB and Katalyst, and build on the information and delivery mechanisms they have already started.

Dear Mahbub Thanks for your compliments. I am hardly trying to promote climate-smart agriculture along the coastal belt of Bangladesh. I hope ICT will play vital role in this regard

Dear ccgabinete Thanks for your kind consideration. For your kind information I have reviewed the interventions, information and mechanism of climate-agriculture information dissemination of of different projects of ADB, AIS, Katalyst. I have found there is some information gap which is most important for climate-smart agriculture. I have incorporated all of these information along with those they provide. Regards

Dear Rana this is a nice technology for improving agricultural activity in climate vulnerable area as well as whole country of Bangladesh. This services are now the essential for developing country including Bangladesh in agricultural sector. but I am astonished to think it how you will be able to complete this project by this little money. I think you should increase your budge specially in software building sector. I wish you will success in your project. Best of luck. Saidur Raj
