Pitch

Tax the coal, oil, power companies but give it back to them if they build solar or wind projects locally

Description

Summary

A carbon tax would be more palatable if the money collected was given riht back to those companies being taxed.  The stiptulation would be that they would build or fund projects at the local levvel for solar or wind projects equal to the amount being taxed.  Projects would include those built on public land, public building, homes, etc.  The  profits produced by the projects would be shared by the land/property owners and the companies.

Category of the action

Mitigation - Helping U.S. enact carbon price legislation

What actions do you propose?

Giving back the taxes to the companies to build solar or wind projects would make the tax much more palatable.  Sharing profits will local governments for  use of land and to homeowners for use of rooftops would make it much more politically acceptable.
