Vertical gardens might have improved this proposal. They also did not really address the issue of soil quality, contaminants and chemical residues in urban areas very effectively.Whilst appealing and certainly a great idea to be pursuing in all cities, the argument is not persuasive or clear and missing details." "The idea is wonderful and urban gardening deserves a lot more attention. I worry about many of the practicalities left unaddressed in this proposal, including the ability of many or most roofs in communities (especially poor, or even informal communities) to support the weight of wet soil, who would bear the costs of soil, construction of garden beds, etc.I have been to Bangalore, and certainly the problems of open space and other outlined in this proposal are fierce.I wonder if a better start would be in creating publicly accessible demonstration gardens that could be used to create methods and spread the word. These perhaps could be started on vacant plots. Or on publicly accessible roof that could support the gardening (maybe a government building). These might be good ways to start a movement."
