The idea of communicating the importance of sustainable lifestyle is really good. In today's world with every individual aspiring to enhance his or her living leading to increased consumption and related impact to environment. What I believe is with advent of social media and technology it would be more effective to run the suggested programs though online forums and tools. It will have greater and faster impact.

Thank you for your comment, vishalbhavsar. I agree that the web provides good opportunities to distribute ideas and reach a wider audiance. The disadvantage that I see is that people have to actively search for forums and tools. There are already many official and private websites that encourage sustainable lifestyles but people have to look for it in order to find them. In contrast, posters are visible to everyone. They can reach people who have never thought and heard about it and those who don't care. I would like to establish a webiste along with the posters and use the latter to advertise the website. Thus, people who want to know more about it can look it up on the website and/or find links.

Placing posters in the parks world wide can have substantial impact. What is important is the contents of posters; worthy for attracting the attention in convincing manner; gives clear message that enhancing consumption alone does not add to the stature / quality and also show that there are other options in life style that optimize consumption of a particular product / services and concurrently enhance stature and quality of life style with reasons of its prudency. Your proposal need to plan the actions that attracts voluntary attention.Thanks.

Thank you, laxmimanohar. I agree that the content of the posters is very important. Generally, different aspects of sustainability can be addressed with the posters. One aspect, that I particularly stress in the proposal, is the environmental awareness, pointing out the environmental impact our current lifestyles have. Another aspect, I think you are referring to, is sustainable living, showing people what they can do to live more sustainable and how consuming less can lead to a fulfilled life. Both these aspects should be shown on the posters to make the story of a sustainable lifestyle complete. I also think that some posters might need to be adjusted to the cities current environmental state. I will add a paragraph about the actions to attract volunteers soon.

I also agree that more than placing posters in public, the content is more important. I say that because sometimes I see posters around the city and that doesn't catch my attention. Marketing professionals in the sustainability field should be part of this important task. Paulo

Thanks Paulo, It would be great if I could create the posters with professionals. I haven't thought about it yet because I considered it as not being in the scope of this project. So your comment is much appreciated and I will add this to the proposal.

Counter question: What is the idea of advertising posters? - They suggest that you look better and/or live a better lifestyle when you by the product. Most posters don't have long sentences on them that explain their intention. It is mostly pictures and the label of the brand that can be seen on the posters. I intend to do the same with eco-posters. Pictures should show the environmental impact we have. Phrases will be added to support the picture, e.g. if the relationship between our behavior and the environmental consequence is to complicated or to make people think about their behavior.

There are currently and have previously been various attempts to do something like this in major cities all around the world; thus, the lack of novelty here, and limited discussion regarding how this project would move us beyond the status quo, leads a bit to be desired. Also, the project seems to focus (at least initially) on cleaning up urban litter and waste--it's not entirely clear how this will translate into the stated goal of changing public perceptions re: climate change. Finally, there's quite a bit that's known about the efficacy of these types of poster/ad campaigns to promote pro-environmental behavior; this work is conspicuously absent from the present proposal. Certainly, advertising messaging that promotes a sustainable lifestyle is a good idea. But, there are others who have been doing this (i.e. adbusters). What is different here? You are proposing a major change away from consumption and profit as dominant norms in our culture. But there is a huge machine of Madison Avenue that you are taking on, and many others have taken on. What is really different here?
