"Save the Baby" Global Data Commons for Baby Care by Save the Baby 2.0
Aug 5, 2014
Judges' Comments: Digital health records are a common idea although bringing the target population directly into the system is a good way forward. There are other systems using smart phones that offer rewards for registering and enable accountability of support systems to be monitored. For instance, bringing a baby into a clinic to be weighed is recorded while at the clinic--with the smart phone GIS validating the mother and child's presence. A reward for meeting say 10 appointments could be included to keep the system up to date. Overall nice idea, great presentation and would benefit from a few more steps in designing how the service would be marketed.

Thank you for the great suggestion and the information about the systems offering rewards. We will revise our proposal in terms of how our service would be marketed.

This is an interesting proposal. I am just wondering how this proposal would add value for developing countries? Secondly, I do not see any privacy protection element of crowdsourced health data (as you know this is really an important issue)? Please correct me if I am wrong!

Hi muktibangla, Thanks for supporting the proposal. You have asked most relevant questions. − Issues of developing countries ・Disasters hurt poor and vulnerable people the most. And disasters exacerbate existing gender inequities. − Importance of insight into the birth ・Countries and regions coverage of birth registration has remained at a low level is still not a few in the world. Protection and child survival, growth is the development of the world, also for the advancement of humanity, social infrastructure development from birth report is thus important. Reference：unicef [Convention on the Rights of the Child] http://www.unicef.org/crc/index_30160.html Here are the answers 1. How this proposal would add value for developing countries? ① “Reduce child mortality” Reduce the infant mortality by the use of big data for maternal and infant health and by collaborating with key actors such as government, business, and other organizations, and human capabilities. ② “Improve maternal health and empowerment ” Improve reproductive health by creating an environment for the mothers to learn about hygiene in developing countries. Create a sustainable society where people are physically and mentally healthy, and live longer, and human capabilities ③ Possibilities of BOP business in global health cooperation 2. About Security Security is important, of course, recognize that the problems we must also be addressed. Concrete studies yet to come, but the electronic medical records of has been advanced in the world already, that knowledge can be utilized. I want to build in collaboration other possibilities to declaring it want to take advantage of the knowledge of the current stage at the same time as it has been recognized Issues. Balancing openness of public data and protecting privacies of each individual requires careful and decent discussions for all committed persons. It is important to find a solution together. We are not perfect yet. However, I know the important Issues. I believe that by leveraging the knowledge of the world, and start moving toward a resolution of the problem is important. Hope that answers your questions. If not, do let me know. Thanks and regards, CHIKA

Judges' Comments: In response to one of the comments of how it could benefit developing countries and the challenges of mobile phone technology and digital data, the answer isn't that every mother in a remote area should have a phone and knows how to use the application. This technology in the hands of community health workers would make a big difference until such time as users can enter the data themselves. It's also applicable in disaster events because of the well defined target group and the direct, indirect and secondary or cascading impacts disaster events have on mothers and children. Its application goes beyond disaster situations and more into chronic problems related to health issues in communities in developing countries. An ambitious idea but workable with the right support. The challenge will be the resources required for constant update and managing the system in any given country so that it doesn't become redundant after the initial investment in the set up or pilot stage. Developed countries can earmark funding and integrate such methods into their health care systems. Developing countries are a different story. But that doesn't detract from the viability of the proposal. Long-term feasibility and sustainability is what would determine long-term impact and benefit.

This is a gear idea!! ICT and social media network could embrace mothers and children, those who are most vulnerable during the disaster period. In the developing countries, technology can provide more user-friedly applications to the public with easy workable solution.
