Pitch

Organizing local growers and cottage industry online we can re-localize our food system and reduce the amount of CO2 needed to produce food.

Description

Summary

For the past year our local non-profit business Suncoast co-op has connected local growers and local customers to create a way for supporting the local food economy. We are using an online 3rd party website called locallygrown.net but our website has grown because of the community support and organizing we have accomplished as an organization. By reducing the amount of food miles our food has to travel as well as relocalizing the production of food we can lower the amount of CO2 needed to produce food.

We encourage people to stop planting lawns and start producing food gardens. Some ambitious gardeners have totally transformed their lawns into food. By reducing the need for carbon spewing lawn mowers and weed whackers we further reduce the CO2 being produced by residential suburban lawns.
