What are some ways to create step-change improvements in the GHG emissions associated with the production of fossil fuels?

After review of the entries, the Judges in the Fossil fuel sector contest have chosen not to award any finalists or winners. While the entries presented interesting ideas, the Judges deemed the challenges associated with implementing those ideas as being too great to warrant further development of the proposals.

The IEA estimates that fossil fuels (oil, coal, and natural gas) today provide 80 percent of the world’s energy supply. These fuels provide a wide variety of services from electricity to transportation. Besides direct emissions released when these fuels are combusted, emissions are also released when they are extracted, transported and processed. The focus of this contest is on reducing GHG emissions associated with the extraction, transportation and processing of fossil fuels. See more…
