Description

Note: The emission trajectories in this proposal do not correspond precisely on a year-by-year basis to the IPCC A1FI scenario described below. But total emissions for the 21st century in this proposal do approximate total emissions under A1FI, and as a result, key environmental impacts, such as temperature increase and damage to earth systems (as shown in the Physical impacts tab) are in line with those that could be expected under A1FI.

Executive summary

This proposal assumes continuation of current practices, with fossil fuels meeting most of the world's energy needs throughout the 21st century.

It is the approach of choice for those who are skeptical about climate change.

It is based on two key assumptions:
- fossil fuels will remain the most economical source of energy,
- future carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions will not cause significant damage.

Total emissions over the 21st century in this proposal approximate those in the Intergovernmental Plan on Climate Change (IPCC) A1FI scenario (though emission differ somewhat from A1FI on a year-by-year basis).

A1FI posits rapid future economic growth and a fossil fuel intensive energy system.

Team

Brief description of the role and contributions of individuals and/or organizations that played a key role in developing this proposal.

What: Actions and impacts

Description of the actions proposed and their anticipated impacts.
You may want to refer to the model inputs and outputs you have generated using the Actions & Impacts tab.
In addition, please include actions in the domain of funding by developed countries of emission abatement and climate change adaptation efforts in developing countries.

Why: Rationale for the proposal

Explanation for why these actions and impacts are desirable.

How: Feasibility of proposal

Explanation of how the proposed actions will be achieved. Teams are encouraged, but not required, to use subheadings in this section, such as:

  • Future energy technology mix
  • New policies and political mobilization that will lead to their enactment
  • Social and behavioral change

Vision of the future under this proposal

Depictions of the future that will result from this plan. This section can include artistic representations of what life will be like later this century, using such media as videos, images, or narratives.
