This plan steps beyond Climate Change and CO2 emissions to aim for a more level and more just use of energy globally, and adds another layer of moral imperative to changing consumption patterns. The reference point of the 1960s as the last time Switzerland (as a model high lifestyle industrialized country) is very interesting. What does a 60s era Swiss lifestyle look like?
What kinds of lifestyle changes would be necessary for an average American to go from 15,000 watts to 2,000 watts? No more cheap laptops (imported from overseas)? Must live in cities only (drive less)? Flying as a rare occurrence, limited intercity travel? No pineapples in New England? I would miss fresh pineapple.
