This is a good starting point, the first time the G8 heads and other political leaders have acknowledged the gravity of the problem and the need for action.

Developing countries will be in a few years the major contributors of global CO2 emissions. Thus, unilateral reduction by rich countries will be insufficient

Is it fair to segment the BRIC countries from the rest of the developing world? On the one hand, there are developing countries whose emissions we should be really concerned about. On the other, there are countries that are in severe need of basic resources, and imposing strict limitations on their emissions might keep them in a poverty cycle.

Actually the concern applies mostly to big emitters like China and India.

All nations must take their share of responsibility for global responses to pressing global problems, as Obama said. In my opinon, the only way is the co-operation. Thus the G8 would be a great starting point, waiting for G20.
